A visit to the Schladming-Dachstein holiday region without hiking the Reiteralm and stopping for refreshments at the Gasselhöh Hut would be a real shame! The Reiteralm is one of the most beautiful hiking areas in Styria and delights visitors with spectacular views of the Dachstein massif, crystal-clear mountain lakes, and rustic huts.
Spiegelsee Circular Trail
The highlight of the tour is the famous Spiegelsee lake, which perfectly reflects the Dachstein massif on windless days—a photo opportunity not to be missed. The varied panoramic trail (walking time: 3.5 hours) leads past Reiteralmsee, Obersee, Rippeteck, and Gasselhöhe before returning leisurely to the Gasselhöh Hut – perfect for refreshments with regional specialties. Alternatively, you can also hike back from Spiegelsee via trail no. 66a and Untersee to the starting point.
From the valley to the mountain
This varied tour takes you from the Preunegg Valley through idyllic high forest up to the Reiteralmsee lake and on to the Gasselhöh Hut. Trail No. 772 alternates between narrow paths and wider forest roads. Along the way, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Ramsau Plateau and the Enns Valley. If you still have energy left, you can also climb to the summit of the Gasselhöh at the end.
Via ferrata Reiteralm
For climbing enthusiasts, the Reiteralm offers a real highlight with the “Franzi” via ferrata. It is the first via ferrata in the Schladminger Tauern and leads through the vertical Gasselwand, with difficulty levels ranging from C (difficult) to D (very difficult). An unforgettable experience at lofty heights – with fantastic views over the Reiteralm and the Ennstal valley. Complete via ferrata equipment, including a helmet, harness, and via ferrata set, as well as sturdy footwear, is essential for the climb. For beginners and children, there is also the Goas Steigl via ferrata!
Downhill Kick
The Preunegg Jet mountain railway takes you comfortably up the mountain – and then back down into the valley via the varied Reiteralm Trails through the impressive landscape of the Schladminger Tauern. Whether flow trails, jump lines, or downhill routes – everyone will find the right trail for them on the Reiteralm. The Reiteralm Trails & Junior Trails offer action, nature, and adventure – with professional infrastructure and spectacular views of the Dachstein. There is even a small practice trail with bike rental for kids at the mountain station.
Family fun for young and old
Right next to the Preunegg Jet mountain station, you will find the action-packed Reiteralm mirror slide. Right next to it, the large giant trampoline, the Reiteralm XL Jump, and the varied Reiteralm playground with various stations invite you to let off steam. For relaxed excursions with the little ones, Spiegelina's favorite route is ideal—a stroller-friendly path that also starts at the mountain station. A special highlight is the Still Water area, where water playgrounds are waiting to be explored.
